Steve Wozniak just sent this fun stunt caught on video a few years ago: Watch him deliver a Mac to Emma, a girl who freaks out when she realizes her idol is at the door carrying her new computer. As Emma's father says in the video: "This is like having your lightbulbs delivered by Thomas Edison". He's totally right.

Mr. Reader, a popular RSS news app for iPad, has just been updated with an all new design for iOS 7, support for 64-bit devices, and more. New features including the addition of AOL Reader as an RSS service, the ability to add to a Safari Reading List, and tons more.
If you aren't familiar with Mr. Reader already, it's one of the best looking RSS apps we've seen for the iPad so far. Even though the 3.0 update doesn't bring a terribly dramatic change to the interface and design, it really didn't have to. For the most part the interface already meshed rather nicely with iOS 7. Things are now just a little flatter and cleaner. In other words, if you liked the old interface, you won't experience any unwelcome changes.
Currently Mr. Reader supports a plethora of RSS services including AOL Reader, Feedbin, Feedly, Feed Wrangler, Fever, and more. Mr. Reader 3.0 is a free update for anyone who already owns the last version. Other new features and changes include new fonts, better article view options, and more.
I've always been a fan of the inline images Mr. Reader uses which really sets it apart visually from other RSS apps. If you happen to check out the update, let us know what you think in the comments!

The PlayStation family has a lot of stylish members — and one very upright, ashen patriarch that started it all. Let's take a quick look at how their aesthetics evolved.

One victory can change a season.
Nebraska and Southern California, a couple of college football blue bloods who have had less-than regal seasons, get the chance to re-write their stories come Saturday.
Big games involving the Huskers and Trojans are among the five things to know for Week 12 of the college football season.
BIG RED MEETS MEAN GREEN: Nebraska is having about as bad a 7-2 season as is possible. The Cornhuskers were pounded by UCLA and Minnesota in their two losses and haven't beaten a ranked team. Their coach, Bo Pelini, had to apologize for an old tirade against fans that was recorded and released earlier this season. And injuries have stripped them of their starting quarterback (Taylor Martinez) and about a half-dozen other key players. A victory last week against Michigan gave the Huskers hope. This week No. 14 Michigan State comes to Lincoln with the best defense in the nation and a perfect Big Ten record. If the Huskers win, they'll have the inside track to the conference title game and, just like that, a bad season gets good.
TROJAN TURNAROUND: USC was 3-2 and 0-2 in the Pac-12 when Lane Kiffin was fired in late September and Ed Orgeron became interim coach. The former Mississippi coach and longtime USC assistant has lightened the mood and the Trojans have responded by going 4-1. No. 6 Stanford comes to what is expected to be a soldout Los Angeles Coliseum. A victory puts the Trojans back in the Pac-12 South race.
BOWLING: Among the 11 teams that can become bowl-eligible this week is Boston College, which has missed the postseason the past two years after going to 12 straight bowls. The Eagles get North Carolina State (3-6) at home and the Wolfpack could be without injured starting quarterback Brandon Mitchell.
STOOPS AND SWITZER: Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops needs one victory to tie Barry Switzer for the most in Sooners history. Stoops enters No. 22 Oklahoma's game against Iowa State, which hasn't won in Norman since 1990, with 156 victories and 38 losses since taking over in 1999. Switzer went 157-29 from 1973-88.
OLDEST RIVALRY: Auburn vs. Georgia is called the Deep South's oldest rivalry, dating back to 1893. The series is tied 54-54-8, but the Bulldogs have dominated lately, winning six of seven. The seventh-ranked Tigers are in the middle of one of the best turnarounds in the country after going 3-9 and winless in the SEC last year. Auburn still has SEC and even national title hopes with No. 1 Alabama still to come. But a victory against Georgia would put the Tigers in great position to get a BCS bid no matter what happens against the Tide.

In my years in IT, I've seen ridiculous actions taken in the name of improving performance. I've seen hundreds of high-end thin clients sporting more horsepower than a typical PC deployed simply to run a remote desktop client. I've seen a whole blade chassis's worth of servers deployed to do the work of a single server. I've seen video cards designed for gaming installed in desktops to make a line-of-business application work better.
In most of these cases and others like them, unquestionably wasteful decisions were made because of a pervasive fear of one of the worst types of user complaints an IT pro can hear: "It's slow." Those two words issued from the right lips into the right ears can touch off a political disaster that often ends with a pile of wasted time and money. Many times, simply being seen to take any action at all -- regardless of whether it helps -- is more valued than the frequently painstaking process of figuring out what the problem really is (and indeed whether there even is one in the first place).
The real challenge for IT pros faced with a high-profile performance complaint is to quickly and decisively determine where the problem may lie before wasteful measures that serve only to distract from the real issue are forced down our throats. This almost always requires the right tools to be in place ahead of the complaint being made, great communications skills, and in the worst cases, the intellectual curiosity to dig into the weeds in search of a smoking gun.
